#8 - Walsh’s SMOKE WEED ABOUT IT

Technically an EP, this record is a thirty five minute electronic treat. All of the songs put on this dreamy atmosphere. I feel like I’m in Vice City every time I put it on. 2010 has really been about the whole revival of that vintage California feel. I really am digging this album quite a bit.

Favorite Tracks: DTF, Sweet Draems, Untitled, Helicopter Does Not Exist

#7 - Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse’s DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL

Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse producing, David Lynch on vocals and visuals and a whole slew of great singers. What else could I ask for? Amazing production and great guest spots. Frank Black, Jason Lytle, Julian Casablancas, Iggy Pop, Wayne Coyne and of course Mr. Lynch. Very somber sounding at points with songs like Revenge and Everytime I’m With You. It also gets very upbeat with Jaykub and Just War. Unfortunately Mark Lincus (Sparklehorse) took his own life before the release of this record. Fantastic listen.

Favorite Tracks: Revenge, Jaykub, Star Eyes (I Can Catch It), Dark Night of the Soul

#5 - MGMT’s CONGRATULATIONS

The best neo-psychedelic album I’ve heard in a while. They really spent a lot of time on this sophomore LP. Their Oracular Spectacular phase is gone, hopefully this MGMT is here to stay. A lot of fans of the previous record have been turned off by the new sounds of this record. I thought their first record was decent. Some of the songs sounded a lot like filler. This album has no filler. All the tracks belong and its such a satisfying listen.

Favorite Tracks: It’s Working, I Found a Whistle, Brian Eno, Siberian Breaks

Top Ten Albums of the Year

#4 Tie: OFF’s FIRST FOUR EPs & Ceremony’s ROHNERT PARK LP

If you are looking for a punk album that will smash your face in? Look no further than these two records. OFF! is a super group of sorts combining members of Burning Brides and Keith Morris (vocalist for Black Flag and Circle Jerks). Ceremony is a hardcore punk band that is reviving the sounds of vintage California punk efforts of the 70’s and 80’s. Both Albums together come in at about 40 minutes long. Smash your head on the punk rock!

Favorite Tracks (OFF!): Black Thoughts, Fuck People, Peace in Hermosa

Favorite Tracks (Ceremony): Sick, M.C.D.F., Open Head, Into the Wayside 2

#3 - Wavves’ KING OF THE BEACH

My god. This album. In my opinion Wavves is one of the best lo-fi bands working to date. Every song is extremely catchy. The album varies from poppy surf punk songs to very subdued drum machine tracks. Its just…so gooood.

Favorite Tracks: Idiot, Take on the World, Mickey Mouse, Linus Spacehead
